To address our growing challenge with Spam, we are implementing a new Spam filtering software package. This new system is called BARRACUDA, and in the very near future it should improve and enhance your email experience. This gives us a tool to better manage our email system while at the same time giving you, our users, a great deal of control over your own email. We hope to have this fully functional before the start of the Fall semester. This new software should do a better job of filtering out a large majority of the spam we have been getting while at the same time give you the option of creating your own "white list" so that important emails don't get snagged by the filter. We will have more detailed information about this in a later update.

Update: 03.08.2007 Daylight Savings Time As you know, Daylight Savings Time will occur ahead of schedule this year. We are currently patching all the servers with updates from Microsoft in order to prepare for this. Beginning later this afternoon, we will begin running a utility to update the Groupwise calendar. This should resolve the majority of the potential issues.
- A few of you are running Groupwise in caching mode. (If you don't see the word "caching" on your Groupwise window right above the folders, you are not using this feature so you don't have to be concerned.) If you are in caching mode the times in your calendar may be affected. Please click on Tools>Options. Click on the option that says, "Retrieve Entire Mailbox". This should correct your appointment times.
- If you are using a laptop, PDA or a phone to keep your calendar, you may want to re-sync your calendar AFTER the utility has been run. Any appointments made in Groupwise thru web access may not be adjusted correctly.
- MAC users will be affected by this whether appointments were added thru the Web access or the Groupwise client.
Any lingering problems should be eliminated after the date the Daylight Savings Time was originally set to change. The I.T. Department suggest that you take a moment and look over your appointments from March 11th until April 1st. Check them on Monday after the change and correct them if necessary.
Update: 02.26.2007 Last week's IT Roundtable Discussion
featured a follow-up on the Windows Vista and Office 2007 testing that
various Academic and Administrative departments had been doing. From
this input, we will be putting together an overall implementation strategy
for Fall 2007. Departments were asked to evaluate all software they
currently depend on to determine if it will work under Vista. This
will be discussed in the March IT Roundtable. Also discussed was the
overall need for establishing a policy for space limits on network server
shares for departments. Departments were asked to evaluate how much
space they feel they need, and this input will be used in next months
meeting to help formulate a policy.
