FAQ
These are questions asked at some of our recent training sessions:
- Can GroupWise calendar be used for class schedules? Yes and it
can be exported and imported by others.
- How do students access the Student iFolder? Go to
http://if3.oru.edu, student, Novell
login. See Steve Duclos at the Student HelpDesk if you have
problems.
- Is there a training video on the web for iFolder? Yes, click
on the iFolder3 link. Scroll down to videos. There are also
written instructions that can be printed.
- Did the format for GroupWise change recently? There may be
version differences between version 6 and 7.
- Backup? Personal backups need to be done regularly. In a case
where you are sharing documents in an iFolder, it's a good idea to keep
a copy of those documents in case someone inadvertently deletes the
document.
- Spam? This is not just our problem. This is a global
problem.
- Couldn't everyone just use VPN or Remote desktop? VPN requires
a great deal of security and is not an ideal solution. Remote
desktop requires a fixed IP address for each person using it. We
have a limited number of IP addresses available.
- What are the procedures to use iFolder at home?
Synchronization is the key. Upload your documents onto the server
from home to the web page iFolder.
- Is there any way to send email that is the same every time to
different users at different times? Make a template document.
- What happens to iFolder when current computer hard drive fails or
crashes? It is still on the server.
- Can you make a shared iFolder that no one can change? Yes,
choose access for users then choose "Read Only"
- In GroupWise, can you move a file attachment to the C drive
automatically? You can do a save as on the attachment to save it
where you want it or move the email to a folder that is archived on you
hard drive.
- How can I access iFolder faster? Set up a shortcut on your
desktop.
- After archiving email on my personal PC, can it be accessed if the
server goes down? No. The GroupWise client won't start if
the server is down.
- Do I need to do a backup after GroupWise archives to my personal PC?
Yes, or information can be lost if personal P has a malfunction.
Back up should be done a few times per quarter.
