Vista Conversion
Plan for Converting to the Vista OS. The I.T. Department is
currently working with various faculty and staff throughout the University
to determine the feasibility and desirability of converting to
Microsoft Vista Operating System. We are looking at strategic areas in
order to determine the possibility of beginning the conversion Fall 2007.
Some of the issues we are exploring:
- Several of the current software applications we use are not
compatible with Vista at this time. They include but are not
limited to, Banner, Kronos, GoldMine, Symposium, Oracle Finance and SPSS.
- We will begin testing the new Novell Client for Vista in June.
- The hardware requirements for Vista and/or Office 2007 are
significantly more than for WXP. To run Vista with all of our other
software applications will require at least 1 GB of Memory, a 120 GB
Hard Drive and a processor speed of at least 2 GHZ.
In an effort to gather the information necessary to form a plan, we are
asking that all departments submit a spreadsheet. The Department
Managers and Deans will be given a copy of the spreadsheet or it can be
